NUTRITION:
Eat
Fat, Lose Fat, Dr. Mary Enig and Sally Fallon
This is a must have book to get a good, comprehensive overview
of the importance of saturated fats, how necessary they are to our
health and the politics of what happened to the promotion of a low
fat, high carb society. GREAT recipes and a weight lose meal plan
that will have you salivating.
Nourishing
Traditions, Sally Fallon
Sally
skillfully brings us back to reason as well as tradition. Man rarely
has improved upon nature and we've lost the very foundation of our
health - whole foods, organic, saturated fats - it's how we have
eaten and lived as a species.
The
Whole Soy Story, The
Dark Side of America's Favorite Health Food, Kaayla Daniel,
Ph.D
While there are no recipes here, the book that tells the truth about
soy that scientists know, that you need to know, and that the soy
industry has tried to suppress
The
Untold Story of Milk, Green
Pastures, Contented Cows and Raw Dairy Foods.
Ron Schmid, ND
"This fascinating and compelling book will change the way you
think about milk. Dr. Schmid chronicles the role of milk in the
rise of civilization and in early America, the distillery dairies,
compulsory pasteurization and the politics of milk, traditional
dairying cultures and the modern dairy industry. He details the
betrayal of public trust by government health officials and dissects
the modern myths concerning cholesterol, animal fats and heart disease.
And in the final chapters, he describes how scores of eminent scientists
have documented the superiority of raw milk and its myriad health
benefits.
Raw milk
is a movement whose time has come. This book will serve as a catalyst
for that movement - a movement that could change the life of every
individual who comes to fully understand the value of raw milk from
healthy, grass fed animals."
Healing
with Whole Foods Paul Pitchford
If I were to choose only one book to recommend regarding nutrition
and food, it would be this one. Pitchford brings together authentic
traditions of Asian medicine with current Western research on health
and nutrition to create the most detailed sourcebook available on
planning and preparing an optimal diet. He reminds us that all nutrients
are available in unadulterated whole foods. It couldnt be
simpler; the basis of life is a whole foods diet (not wanting to
wear out the phrase). Our patients concur, it too, is a page turner
and should be in every home as a reference guide.
Nourishing
Traditions - Sally Fallon and Mary G. Enig
I highly recommend this book, for the education it offers as well
as how to cook. This book and its recipes can easily be adapted
to the Low-Carb Mediterranean Type Diet that I recommend. It should
be on everyone's shelf.
Brain
Building Nutrition - The Healing Power of Fats and Oils,
by Michael A. Schmidt - a must read for those in pre-conception
care protocols with us! Its and excellent book on the role of fats
and oils in mental and emotional as well as physical health and
especially in the development and health of the nervous system for
mom and baby.
Dead
Doctors Don't Lie - by Dr. Joel Wallach and Dr. Ma Lan
Intriguing. VERY intriguing. It also is a source of excellent information
about minerals, including the minerals that have not yet been identified
by conventional medicine as essential.
Biochemical
and Physiological Aspects of Human Nutrition -, by Martha
H. Stipanuk.
This is the best nutrition textbook I've found. The majority of
nutrition texts teach medical nutrition, that is, the food pyramid,
cholesterol as a cause of heart disease, saturated fates are bad
guys, and other such nonsense, and tend to be quite disappointing
all the way around. This one is different. It also has good information
about the functions of vitamins and minerals. She hovers on the
brink of advocating a whole food nutrition, as she recognizes the
importance of cofactors and synergists in the functions of nutrients
(to some degree).
Why
do I Need Whole Food Supplements? - by Lorrie Medford, C.N.,
Order directly from Lorrie at 918-644-4483 or email at lorrie@lifedesignnutrition.com
This book is directed to the layperson to explain what whole food
supplements are and why they are needed. It outlines the problems
with synthetics, a wonderful short book that should be in everyone's
home.
Your
Body's Many Cries for Water - by F. Batmanghelidj, M.D.
Describes the many functions of water in the body. It's a very interesting
book that is motivating to drink more water.
OSTEOPOROSIS:
Perfect
Bones: A Six-Point Plan to Promote Healthy Bones - by Pamela
Levin,R.N.
By far, this is the best of the many books out there on this topic.
It's an Excellent source of information on the use of whole-food
supplements, as well as diet, exercise, and lifestyle changes to
promote bone health. Gives more accurate information about hormones
that control bone growth and remodeling. Most books recommend estrogen
only, which is inaccurate. It explains the use of more nutrients
than just calcium and Vitamin D.
POLITICS
OF HEALTH CARE:
The
Nutritional Cost of Prescription Drugs - by Ross R. Pelton,
Ph.D. and James B LaValle,
Ph.D. Provides information on nutritional deficiencies caused by
many medications.
Politics
in Healing: The Suppression and Manipulation of American Medicine,
by Daniel Haley
This
is NOT a book for the weak of heart or stomach. He goes into the
how and the why non-conventional, non-toxic therapies have been
routinely suppressed by the powers that be in the the health care
industry. An important book to understand what's been going on,
and still is, to suppress, misrepresent and squelch all non-conventional
approaches and treatments in health care.

FERTILITY:
The
Infertility Cure
Randine Lewis, Ph.D.
My dear colleague has written a book so clear and comprehensive
on Traditional Chinese Medicines approach to infertility that
Ive put aside my own manuscript. There is so little that I
might add. I highly recommend this book for those who want to understand
in more detail exactly how this health care system works regarding
infertility. I especially recommend it for women in their late 30s
and early 40s who fear they are too old. This
book is truly a page turner. www.howtomakeafamily.com,

Taking
Charge of Your Fertility: The Definitive Guide to Natural Birth
Control and Pregnancy Achievement - by Toni Weschler, M.P.H.
We ask that all preconception care patients read this book it is
so essential.
IMMUNIZATION:
The
Sanctity of Human Blood: Vaccination is Not Immunization,
by Tim O'Shea
Did
you know...
- Infectious
diseases were over 90% resolved by the time vaccines came on the
market?
- There
are now 33 vaccines that are mandated by the time your child is
6 years old? And 40 by age 16?
- Only
one country in Europe still has mandated DPT shots, whereas the
US requires four separate doses?
- That
mercury in vaccines is dozens of times in excess of EPA safe levels?

ENDOCRINOLOGY - GENERAL
The
Hormone Deception - D. Lindsey Berkson
This is a fascinating read. Berkson links petrochemicals - plastics,
detergents, solvents and pesticides - to effects in cluding a drop
in the average age of puberty, to a rise in the incidence of breast
cancer, and a decrease in perm levels. The human -made chemicals
mmimic hormones, and disturb natural hormonal ratios and ultimately
creates health problems. www.hormonedeception.com
The
Oxytocin Factor: Tapping into the Hormone of Calm, Love and Healing,
by Kerstin Umas Moberg
If
you knew that there was a hormone in your body that when stimulated
elicits forth a sense of well being, calm and love, thus, is very
healing, would you be interested? After you read this, you will
wonder why this is not the most important hormone to know about,
read about, work with. The author is the acknowledged world authority
and is like a voice speaking in the wilderness. A wilderness full
of stressed out people and stress research while virtually no attention
is paid to the oxytocin system.

These
books are important, since the more we understand how the foods
we eat effect our bodies, and in turn our minds, the better we can
use this knowledge to prevent illness for ourselves and our families.
The more likely we are to implement and maintain the lifestyle changes
that are foundational to well being, the more likely we are to balance
our hormones, and ultimately improve fertility.
